Children come to life on the farm and find new friends in many of our animals

Animals and petting zoo at Grubinger Hof

There are times when you need the silence of the animals to recover from everyday life.(Sylvia Raßloff)

Petting zoo for children at Grubinger Hof

Rabbits, dwarf rabbits, dwarf rams, German rams, and our trusty Druffler crested chickens. Our hens with their chicks can also often be found in the petting zoo.

Behavior in the petting zoo

Please do not walk, this means great stress for the animals! In the wild, rabbits are only hunted by predators, such as foxes. Rabbits who withdraw, please give them some rest! Dandelions, grass and fruit/vegetables are allowed to be fed to the animals in the petting zoo.

In 2012 a new pen with a milking parlor for 13 dairy cows was built. The calves are kept in spacious boxes. The cows are milked twice a day.

The heifers spend every summer on the Alm in Unterach. (Ascent to the Eisenauer Alm, near Seeache). If the weather permits, they spend the autumn on the meadows around the farm.

We attach great importance to the species-appropriate husbandry of our chickens. Chickens have a natural laying pause every year to protect their bodies. This can last up to 3 months. In conventional egg farms, attempts are made to avoid this break (with special feed,...).

If the laying performance of the laying hens decreases, they are exchanged. The life expectancy of laying hybrids is 3 years. "Normal chickens" live up to 10 years. In comparison, a laying hybrid lays up to 300 eggs a year, while a "normal chicken" often only lays 150 or fewer.

Of course, we let our hens breed too, and yes, the male chicks grow up with us too!

Here at the farm, we allow every animal a natural break.

How do you behave properly towards our animals?

Animals like it when you walk slowly towards them and they can see you well or when you wait until they come closer themselves. Animals do not like screaming or running at all, they get scared and run away. When animals feel too much pressure, they can also bite, kick out or bump! Because it is well known that love goes through the stomach, it can make the first contact easier if you bring the animal a small healthy treat. Please always ask what you can feed! Many animals like to sniff you, maybe an animal will even lick your hand if it likes the smell. Animals are always petted in the direction of their fur, from front to back.
